Finding the Joy

This morning the Lord has been reminding me of all the times He has been with us during this 1,419-day war. This picture is just one of many blessings He has given us as we have battled this monster called cancer. In July 2013, we had an amazing few months. Janice’s hair had just started growing back, after losing it for the second time due to chemo, and she was excited to get the summer started with her new hair. We got started with a camping trip with my parents for the 4th of July. I remember traveling to the peer with my parents, and we sat in the back of my dads pickup and watched the amazing fireworks shows. It was one of those moments in time that I will already remember as being perfect. We were not worrying about cancer, treatments, or surgery; we were just there in the moment, my Angel wrapped in my arms, just taking in the beauty that was surrounding us. Then, at Janice’s company picnic they had a grand prize give-away which was a 3 day/4 night stay in a condo in San Destin. We had never stayed in anything like this before, and as you can see in this picture, the view from our balcony was spectacular. Out of the hundreds of people at her work, her name got drawn; some may call it luck; I call it God’s favor. Then in September we took a cruise on the Carnival Conquest with ports of call in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. It was simply 7 days of wonderful moments, where we forgot about everything we were living with, and just took in so much of God’s beautiful creation.

This was just ONE of the many, many amazing adventures we have taken. I have pictures of most of the trips in my photo albums on Facebook for anyone interested. You see, when Janice was diagnosed with cancer on October 18, 2011, the Lord really started showing me the importance of living life to the fullest (John 10:10). Then, He started leading me to start helping my Angel have as many amazing moments as possible, while she has been battling this horrible disease. So, instead is sitting around always complaining about how much life sucked. We decided to counter every negative experience, with one so amazing we would actually not even think about what we were going through. Six cruises, and many other mini vacations and events later we have lived, and continue to live an extraordinary life. We are not wealthy by a long shot, but have done as much as we could, given our limited resources. My Angel still has two more places to visit, Hawaii and Italy, on her bucket list, and Lord willing, these trips will happen. With all the frequent flyer miles we are racking up flying to the Cancer Treatment Center, by next summer we should be able to fly to Hawaii for free. Yep, our God is good like that! and then we can start saving for Italy, or who knows, it wouldn’t surprise me if Janice won a free trip. lol

Friends, life is too short to live with regrets. I know some of you may have physical limitations, but always do your best to enjoy this One life we are given. My parents are ALWAYS setting this example for us, and I could not be more proud of them. My poor mother can hardly walk anymore, but my dad is always encouraging her to do things. Yes, he has emphysema himself, but you never hear him complain, and he is always trying to get his family to do things together. Later this month, they are going on another cruise with others in our family. My mother recently got her an electric wheel chair, is learning how to use it, and plans to use it on the cruise. Now that’s what I am talking about Janice Pitts! Don’t let a little thing like not being able to walk stop you. I know you all will have an amazing time and can’t wait to see the pictures.

It is truly an amazing thing to be living in God’s favor, and I pray each of you will learn what is truly important in life. For me, God, my Angel, my family, and my friends are tops on my list. My career, hobby’s, ect. are way down the list. You see, I have found true happiness, and no matter what this life throws my way, I know there is absolutely nothing my God cannot bring me through. Let me just end with the lyrics to this song that are truly my heart:

This life is a journey we walk by faith
And there will always be the mountains in our way
But right here in this moment, may our strength be renewed
As we recall what God has done and how we’ve seen Him move

If there’s anybody here who’s found Him faithful
Anybody here who knows He’s able
Say Amen
If there’s anybody here who’s seen His power
Anybody here brought through the fire
Say Amen
Anybody here found joy in the middle of sorrow
Just say Amen!

AMEN! AMEN! AMEN! Our God is Faithful. AMEN!

From my heart to yours!
